The real deal: astronomers deliver first photo of black hole

Paris (AFP) - Astronomers on Wednesday unveiled the first photo of a black hole, one of the star-devouring monsters scattered throughout the Universe and obscured by impenetrable shields of gravity.

The image of a dark core encircled by a flame-orange halo of white-hot plasma looks like any number of artists' renderings over the last 30 years.

But this time, it's the real deal.

"The history of science will be divided into the time before the image, and the time after the image," said Michael Kramer, director at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy.

Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation called the feat a "huge breakthrough for humanity."

The supermassive black hole immortalised by a far-flung network of radio telescopes is 50 million lightyears away at the centre of a galaxy known as M87.

"It's a distance that we could have barely imagined," Frederic Gueth, an astronomer at France's National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and co-author of studies detailing the findings, told AFP.

Most speculation had centred on the other candidate targeted by the Event Horizon Telescope: Sagittarius A*, a closer but smaller black hole at the centre of our own galaxy, the Milky Way.

Locking down an image of M87's supermassive black hole at such distance is comparable to photographing a pebble on the Moon, the scientists said.

It was also very much a team effort.

"Instead of constructing a giant telescope that would collapse under its own weight, we combined many observatories," Michael Bremer, an astronomer at the Institute for Millimetric Radio Astronomy (IRAM) in Grenoble, told AFP.

Earth in a thimble

Over several days in April 2017, eight radio telescopes in Hawaii, Arizona, Spain, Mexico, Chile, and the South Pole zeroed in on Sag A* and M87.

Knitted together, they formed a virtual observatory some 12,000 kilometres across -- roughly the diameter of Earth.

"The data is like an incomplete puzzle set," said team member Monika Moscibrodzka, an astronomer at Radboud University. "We only see pieces of the real true image, and then we have to fill in the gaps of the missing pieces."

In the end, M87 was more photogenic. Like a fidgety child, Sag A* was too "active" to capture a clear picture, the scientists said.

"What we see in the image is the shadow of the black hole's rim -- known as the event horizon, or the point of no return -- set against the luminous accretion disk," Gueth told AFP.

The unprecedented image -- so often imagined in science and science fiction --- has been analysed in six studies co-authored by 200 experts from 60-odd institutions and published Wednesday in Astrophysical Journal Letters.

"I never thought that I would see a real one in my lifetime," said CNRS astrophysicist Jean-Pierre Luminet, author in 1979 of the first digital simulation of a black hole.

Coined in the mid-60s by US physicist John Archibald Wheeler, the term "black hole" refers to a point in space where matter is so compressed as to create a gravity field from which even light cannot escape.

The more mass, the bigger the hole. At the same scale of compression, Earth would fit inside a thimble.

A successful outcome depended in part on the vagaries of weather during the April 2017 observation period.

"For everything to work, we needed to have clear visibility at every (telescope) location worldwide", said IRAM scientist Pablo Torne, recalling collective tension, fatigue and, finally, relief.

'Hell of a Christmas present'

Torne was at the controls of the Pico Veleta telescope in Spain's Sierra Madre mountains.

After that, is was eight months of nail-biting while scientists at MIT Haystack Observatory in Massachusetts and the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy in Bonn crunched the data.

The Universe is filled with electromagnetic "noise", and there was no guarantee M87's faint signals could be extracted from a mountain of data so voluminous it could not be delivered via the Internet.

There was at least one glitch.

"We were desperately waiting for the data from the South Pole Telescope, which -- due to extreme weather conditions during the southern hemisphere winter -- didn't arrive until six months later," recalled Helger Rottmann from the Max Planck Institute.

It arrived, to be precise, on December 23, 2017.

"When, a few hours later, we saw that everything was there, it was one hell of a Christmas present," Rottmann said.

It would take another year, however, to piece together the data into an image.

"To be absolutely sure, we did the work four times with four different teams," said Gueth.

Team scientists presenting the findings at a news conference in Brussels were visibly moved.

"We are looking at a region we have never looked at before, that we cannot really imagine being there," said Heino Falcke, chair of the EHT Science Council.

"It feels like looking at the gates of hell, at the end of space and time –- the event horizon, the point of no return."

It's interesting to us what your reaction to all this is scientifically. You saw that the "creative event" of your Universe is missing some energy in order for it to have formed as it did. In addition, the unusual way the galaxy rotates, as I just stated, was also noted. So you have calculated that for all this to be in place, there has to be missing 3D matter, and you have given it a name - dark matter. How funny! Did you ever think that there could be a multidimensional effect going on that you now can observe and calculate - that has immense power, but can't be seen? It's not "matter" at all and it's not 3D. Pope Francis chatted with six astronauts at the International Space Station (ISS) on Thursday, kicking off the rare interview with a philosophical question on "man's place in the universe".

Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli, 60, admitted that despite the bird's eye view of Earth he too remained "perplexed", while American Mark Vande Hei said seeing the planet from space made them "realise how fragile we are".

The Argentine pontiff sat at a small desk inside the tiny city state, facing a wide-screen television on which the astronauts from America, Russia and Italy could be seen floating together in their blue suits.

"Good afternoon... or good evening. I imagine time passes differently at the space station, right?" the pope quipped.

"Astronomy makes us think about the universe's boundless horizons, and prompts questions such as 'where do we come from, where are we going?'" the pope mused.

A 30-second delay in the satellite feed gave Nespoli, Vande Hei, Americans Randolph Bresnik and Joseph Acaba, and Russians Sergej Nikolaevic Rjazanskij and Alexandr Misirkin time to weigh up life's biggest questions.

"Our aim here is to spread knowledge, (but) the more we learn, the more we realise we do not know," Nespoli admitted.

"I would like people like you, theologians, philosophers, poets, writers, to come to space to explore what it means to be a human in space," he said, as Francis nodded and smiled.

But the pope had not finished: what, he wanted to know, was their opinion of love as a force that moves the universe? What was their source of joy up in the space station, and how did a life without gravity change their view of the world?

The crew took it in turns to get their philosophical caps on, and not even a technical hitch which temporarily interrupted the interview, or the lack of a Russian translator, could throw the space travellers off course.

Astronomer Vera Rubin, whose pioneering work on galaxy rotation rates led to the theory of dark matter, has died at the age of 88, her son says.

Allan Rubin said she died on Sunday of natural causes, AP reported. She was living in Princeton, New Jersey.

Her studies earned her numerous honours, including being the second female astronomer to be elected to the US National Academy of Sciences.

But many questioned why she was never awarded a Nobel Prize.

In 1974, Rubin discovered that the stars at the edges of galaxies moved faster than expected.

Gravity calculations using only visible matter in galaxies showed that the outer stars should have been moving more slowly.

To reconcile her observations with the law of gravity, scientists proposed there was matter we cannot see and called it dark matter.

Dark matter is an unidentified type of matter comprising approximately 27% of the mass and energy in the observable universe.

“..  Physics - Sticking To The Known

Physicists are among the kinds of scientists who expect change through discovery, and who absolutely know that they are unaware of how everything works. It comes with the territory of being a physicist. Yet the mistakes they make in their bias are the same as the computer scientist. They take their truth from known absolute physics in 3D and then apply this truth to everything they don't know.

I point to the revelation and the discoveries of astronomer Vera Rubin. When she found out that stars that orbit the middle of your galaxy don't behave within the gravitational laws of Newton or the laws of planetary motion from Kepler, it was a major discovery. Your solar system moves around the sun in highly definable 3D laws of motion. The objects that are further away from the sun go slower. The ones closer to the sun go faster. However, her discovery showed that stars orbiting the galaxy had this reversed! The stars that are further away from the middle go faster. What she discovered was that all of the stars go the same speed in relationship to the middle, like they were pasted on a plate, all revolving together around the center. They do not follow the rules of the physics that you know.

So, what did the physicists and astronomers do with this major new information? Instead of seeing a brand new paradigm, they instead used Newton's laws and computed what would have to be "out there" to make this happen. Dark matter! It had to be mysterious, invisible matter that was creating this very strange and enormous new Newtonian attribute. Instead of looking at this and saying, "There is a new law of physics happening here that we don't yet know about," they kept it within the Newton box and renamed it, "Altered Newtonian Physics". That's funny! That's like a situation when you discovered the earth was round and called it the "Altered Flat-Earth Principle"!

Newton's name is still attached, but his 3D laws have nothing to do with anything Ruben discovered. Dark matter does not exist! It's a made-up energy to satisfy an old law that doesn't apply! Instead, there is a new law of physics that you haven't seen yet. It's a multidimensional law having to do with modified entanglement. Modified entangled objects are created because of what is in the middle of the galaxy. The immense push-pull twin energy at the middle of each galaxy is not simplistic like your sun is to your own solar system. It does not have Kepler rules, since it's not mass that's just orbiting naturally. Yet, you think it is, since it looks similar: The galaxy has stars circling it in space. Someday, you'll slap your heads in revelation of what you did with this, and you will change the rules.

Now to esoteric astronomy: Look what you've done with the idea that you came from the Pleiadians. There are some scientists laughing right now who smugly say that the mythology of the Pleiadians being your seed biology is simply not possible. It's not possible because of astronomical history, and what they now know about the constellation itself.

Pleiadian Connection - Mythology?

Let's talk about the Pleiadian system, the Seven Sisters. Let's talk about the truth of it, and then let's discuss what science says is the mythology of it. We will tell you what you don't see and don't comprehend, simply because of your existing knowledge.

You call this constellation the Seven Sisters [M45]. The physical facts are that there are hundreds of stars in this Pleiades group. Circling these stars is a nebula (dust particles and gas). This creates a wonderful blue tinge that you can see in the heavens on a clear night. With distance and atmospheric attributes against you, the naked eye can only perceive what appears to be seven stars (or clusters), hence the name Seven Sisters. However, there are actually nine when you use a telescope. Each of the nine have been identified with names, but again, there are actually hundreds of stars.

The Seven Sisters are approximately 440 light years away. From the viewpoint of astronomy and distances, that's close - very close! Now, here's what science says is wrong with your mythology about the Pleiadians: The constellation is way too young! The whole system of the Pleiades is far too young to have developed life. It's only approximately 100 million years old - a baby! The galaxy is four billion years old [according to your science] and your planet is at least a billion of that. Yet, the Pleiadians are only a tiny fraction of that, only 100 million.

So here is what science says: The mythology has most of the ancients of this planet claiming the Pleiadians as their seeds. However, this is impossible due to the age of the stars. The suppositions and logic are applied this way: What you saw on earth happens everywhere in the galaxy. That's incorrect, and quite humorous! Your bias is that life develops only a certain way, based upon the way it developed here. Not only is that incorrect in general, but the possibility has never even been broached that perhaps, just perhaps, the Pleiadian life as you think it exists was actually implanted there! How about that? Perhaps it didn't evolve from there at all! So to dismiss a possibility completely due to only the knowledge of what you have here may result in a totally illogical conclusion. Then there is the question, "How did those Pleiadians get so advanced so quickly?" [Wink]

These are just little vignettes of possibility, which I throw to you this evening to give you things to think about. The Pleiadians who are here are smiling, and they know you so well. You may be the new kids on the block because life just developed on your planet, but the Pleiadians had an entirely different scenario from what you had. To become an ascended planet, they needed certain kinds of pushes from certain other kinds of planets. They had their own seed biology! Dear ones, it's important to start thinking out of the box of your knowledge and open up to possibilities that are not what you've seen here.  ….”

Amsterdam professor develops new theory of gravity

An Amsterdam university professor has come up with a new theory of gravity that might explain the curious motions made by stars in galaxies. 

Emergent gravity, as the new theory is called, predicts the deviation in the stars that is usually explained by the existence of dark matter. The groundbreaking theory has been drawn up by professor Erik Verlinde, an expert in string theory at the University of Amsterdam and the Delta Institute for Theoretical Physics. 

Erik Verlinde first came up with a completely new theory of gravity in 2010. He believes gravity is not a fundamental force of nature, but a phenomenon resulting from changes in fundamental bits of information, stored in the structure of space time.

‘Many theoretical physicists like me are working on a revision of the theory [of gravity], and some major advancements have been made,’ says Verlinde. ‘We might be standing on the brink of a new scientific revolution that will radically change our views on the very nature of space, time and gravity’.

"... The Vast Invisible World That is Before You

What do you know about invisible things? First, let's discuss invisible things that are not esoteric. Let's go into that which is real to you and also invisible. Let's go to what you call the brass tacks of invisibility. There are multiple, physical, profound and powerful energies around you that interface with you every single day, but that are completely and totally invisible to you as Human Beings. However, you accept them and you work with them and you say, "Well, they're invisible but that's just the way things are. It doesn't bother me."

Gravity. Everyone on Earth is affected by gravity! But it's invisible! We have given you many channellings on the physics of gravity, and we have told you that it is variable and controllable, and eventually you'll know why. We told you that it is not necessarily linked to mass in the empirical way you think. In fact, you can tune it to the amount you want if you knew a little more about how to change the mass of objects. It's just a matter of time and discovery, and what will follow will be very reasonable and very logical scientifically. One thing leads to another and leads to another and, finally, there will be discoveries that allow you to do things, which in the past seemed scientifically ludicrous. Someday gravity will be able to be seen and measured with instruments you have yet to discover. When you know more about the physics of gravity, you will know how to see it in all its glory. It's coming.

The science of anything becomes more real to you when you can see the physical patterns of it. By the way, when you can finally see the patterns of gravity, you will understand a little bit more about how to alter it. There will be secrets revealed within the patterns you can't see at the moment. Quantum things do not exist in a way you can see them as you are used to in 3D. This will require discoveries that are coming that will be scientific and developed with a new understanding and consciousness. That's just one. (*)

The Coming Patterns

My partner speaks of the magnetic field constantly. You know it's there, because your compasses point to the top of it. Something is physically there,  and it's invisible. This couch of consciousness that you sit in, which literally is tied to life force on the planet, is completely and totally invisible. Yet there'll come a time when it's not. Let me tell you a secret that is not a secret to any physicist or any biologist. Everything has patterns - everything. The fractals are always there. The big to the little, the little to the big and the very shapes of the patterns and designs of everything you see are literal giveaways to what creates them. This will then lead you to the next step. You'll understand why the magnetic grid does what it does, and you'll understand how it allies with biology and Human thinking. You may even be able to tune it slightly for health! These things are all coming. It's going to be science, and it's not going to be esoterics, but it will lead to beautiful esoteric discovery.

We have told you over and over again that there will come a time when these very instruments will be turned toward Human Beings and a revelation will occur in science. It will be revealed clearly that Human Beings have some kind of quantumness around them. As the instruments become more fine-tuned, there will be ways of actually seeing and measuring the patterns around the Human Being. Dear ones, this is the sacred physics of the Human - the Merkabah.

You better put these things together soon, because if you stay in the boxes and the compartments, you won't receive answers. You won't understand the correlations and the confluences and how they work with one another. Scientists, it's time to think out of the box of specialization. A report co-authored by an expert at the Leiden Observatory, suggests there are ten times as many galaxies as previously thought: at least 2,000,000,000,000 of them, according to the Volkskrant. 

The study, published in the Astrophysical Journal, used 3D modelling techniques on 20 years of data from the Hubble space telescope to conclude that there are at least two trillion galaxies in the observable universe. 

This is, reports Nature magazine, the ‘first significant revision of the count in two decades.’ But – because of the time light takes to reach the Earth – some of these galaxies may not actually exist now, the scientists said. 

The Volkskrant reports that Dr Ken Duncan of Leiden University was one of the team, which was led by the university of Nottingham.

It is difficult to know how to begin and difficult to know how to explain this in a way that you will actually understand. So let us start with this. Your science believes at the moment that quantum physics has to do with the way small particles react to each other. These would be particles that are so small; they are even particles of light, molecules of DNA, and other products of the wave particle theory. These are so small, you have to see them under an electron microscope. This is what you call quantum mechanics and it's only being seen within the very small.

Here is a puzzle already. Did you know that light and other matter regularly changes from waves to particles? Did you know that light changes to a particle when it is being observed by a Human Being? Now, how can a mathematical system "sense" that it is being observed? Already you know that quantum energy might just be very different than anything you thought. What if it isn't physics at all? What if quantum energy is "the creator's fingerprint"? It would be physics and also have a consciousness. But then, perhaps that's just too strange?

The Large Quantum Energy of the Galaxy

I'm going to give you information to think about. The quantum energy you see in the very small also occurs in the very large. In fact, we'll even go so far as to tell you that physics is actually different in different parts of the Universe, depending on what is at the center of each galaxy. Let's start with that premise - that physics is not a set standard of universal rules. It varies depending on the quantum stamp of the creator energy of each one. Some of them are very similar, but all of them are slightly different. And if you could know the differences, you'd wonder why, and I just told you - it's what's in the middle.

Because your physics is mainly 3D, you have difficulty with how things really work. And quantum physics is the only clue you have to a multi-verse and the possibility that some laws of mass and gravity are determined by what happens in the middle of each galaxy. The creation energy is in the middle. That bipolar energy, that push/pull that we have called "the twins" are in the middle of your galaxy. You see it in 3D as a singularity - which, by the way, is impossible - but it's really a double event. Science doesn't know that yet. So we give this to you so that when they discover it, you can say you heard it here. It will then give credibility to everything else I'm going to say. By the way, how is it, when everything in your physics comes in pairs, even your current laws of physics, that you create a singularity in the middle of the galaxy? Did anyone consider that it could be another pair?

Let us start with the astronomer and ask, "Dear Astronomer, do you believe in God?" The astronomer will think for a moment and might then say, "I am not one to define divinity. It's not my science. I might believe in God, but that's not my study, for I deal in the scientific method." So you might ask him instead, "All right, what do you see that is scientifically interesting to you about our galaxy?" This is where the astronomer may get a bit excited and say, "All right, I will tell you what is interesting to all of us. We've discovered something we don't understand. There are physical principles in large things that do not apply to orbital mechanics as you have learned them within Newtonian and Euclidian physics. It's odd to us that the galaxy moves as one plate, almost like the stars were pebbles glued upon it. It all rotates together. There has to be some kind of energy that holds that form. For orbital mechanics as we know them have to do with gravity and mass and orbiting objects around a fulcrum, such as our sun, and it creates orbits that are all different. All objects around a gravitational center seek their orbits based upon mass and speed. That's why all the planets have different orbits. It's the physics that we expect. That's what our solar system does. But not a galaxy. Galaxies have something in the middle that must be gravity based, yet everything moves around the center as one. There is some kind of gravitational or attractive unity there. We don't understand it."

The Incredible Design - Against All Odds

But that's not all. Then they will tell you something that you cannot believe. It has to do with what you call random chance. So we're going to call this channelling, "The Quantum Factor." There is something you didn't expect that is happening all around you. In your three-dimensional reality, everything that happens on the earth seems to be in a random state. That is to say, reality responds in an expected bell-shaped curve. Common things happen more often than uncommon things. The odds take a shape of expected randomness. If you were to roll a dice over and over thousands of times, you would see a consistency of randomness that is what you call the way things work. That's what you expect. There's no bias to it.

Back to the astronomer - the astronomer is saying, "Everywhere we look, examining what you would call ‘the creating energy of the Universe', is incredibly mathematically improbable. It would be like if you rolled the dice and you got six and then six and then six, a thousand times. It is beyond the realm of randomness. It shows there had to be intelligent design." Now I'm not talking about a metaphysical person. I'm talking about an astronomer. Everywhere they look, against all odds, the Universe is benevolently designed for life. They've used the term "intelligent design." I use the term "benevolent design." And I will tell you that the energy that glues the solar systems of your galaxy together, more than 100 billion stars, is a giant quantum hand that sits upon all the galaxies of your Universe like the hand of God. It's a quantum, benevolent hand.

How can this be? It is the first of many examples we are going to give you, for this is the quantum factor, the very creator fingerprint of the Universe. It is biased in love, biased for life, biased in benevolence. Here you are, sitting on an earth that shouldn't actually exist, for the only thing that allows it to exist is intelligent design.

How long did it take for science to realize this? For them, it's a puzzle, not a divine statement. It's out of statistical probability and seems to only have been possible by design - a benevolence that is the creator energy of the Universe. Think of that. What does this mean to you? If there is a benevolence in the overall creation of the Universe allowing for life, allowing for this earth to exist, it means that other earths exist. There's life everywhere! We told you that many times. However, we sit on a very special earth - the planet that is the only planet of free choice anywhere. There's only one in every Universe, and there have been other planets of free choice before. There are also graduate planets of free choice, providing the seeds of life to other planets, which then become new planets of divine free choice.

So here you are, the creative energy in you has the wisdom of the ages. It is the wisdom of the ages of your galaxy, not of your earth. Others before you in the billions of years that this galaxy has existed have participated in other tests of consciousness. They have graduated to new levels of benevolence, passing it on to the next planet. It is a long-term event, and eventually you will do the same. In this way, you populate the galaxy with your own seeds and the seeds of those before you - seeds of divine purpose.

As you pass this benevolence, it actually shapes the next Universe and how intelligent the design will be. It has been around a long time to get to this place where physics can be shown to have an attitude. It is an attitude of benevolence. That's the big picture. Let's move to a medium one. ….”
