The CIA released the files - seemingly to coincide with the new X-Files episodes - provoking disbelief on UFO websites.

One report, entitled, Flying Saucers and dated 1 August 1952, says, ‘Less than 100 reasonably credible reports remain ‘unexplainable’ at this time. It is recommended that CIA surveillance be continued.

‘It is strongly urged, however, that no reports of CIA interest or concern reach the press or public.

The CIA said, ‘We’ve decided to highlight a few documents both skeptics and believers will find interesting.

‘Below you will find five documents we think X-Files character Agent Fox Mulder would love to use to try and persuade others of the existence of extraterrestrial activity.

Such documents often prove disappointing to hardcore UFO Fans, according to one expert.

Nigel Watson, author of the UFO Investigations Manual, said last year, ‘At least 10,000 UFO reports collected by the US, Project Blue Book, have been put online and many other governments have released their UFO files.

‘So we have an embarrassment of riches yet these have been largely ignored by UFO researchers, yet they could provide lots of information about types of sightings and their patterns over time and place.

‘The problem is alien saucers and body parts remain as elusive now as they always have been, and it frustrates the hell out of conspiracy mongers and ufologists.

Are you kidding? There's life everywhere. Everywhere! Right now, your scientists are searching for microbial life on all the planets and their moons in your solar system, and they will eventually find it. They expect to find it. They will eventually understand that the seeds of life are everywhere.

How much life might there be? How long has it been "out there"? When science starts to realize the scope of how long life has been in your galaxy, they will begin to see something counterintuitive to evolution - their own Human history. How old is your Universe? Ask your scientists and they will say about 13 billion years. That's OK. Let's use their numbers. How old is your own planet - 4 or 5 billion, perhaps? Correct. But how old is humanity? Why weren't you here with the dinosaurs? You think the earth wasn't ready? Do you think that perhaps that which controls evolution was a little too stupid to make a Human sooner, but the process could make a dinosaur? Have you ever thought about these things?

If you put the earth's entire history into a 24-hour clock, life itself only started in the last hour and humanity, all of civilization, happened the last few seconds. Isn't that odd to you? Therefore, in a Universe that may be 13 billion years old, you arrived in the last few seconds. Did you ever think maybe you're the newest ones on the block? Well, you'd be right.

If the Universe is really that old, do you think perhaps there are civilizations in your galaxy that might be a billion or more years older than you? If that's the case, do you think perhaps they have gone through anything you're going through? Do you think any of them might have had your DNA attributes? Perhaps they also went through what you are going through spiritually? Perhaps they even went into a quantum ascension status? The answer is dozens of them.

You already know them and you've listed them in your publications. The ones who directly seeded you are called Pleiadians. The ones who seeded them might be Octurian and the ones who seeded them may be even Orion. They're everywhere, and they're all here as well. They're looking at you, for you are the ones who are next, and you are passing this marker of the shift

Oh, dear ones, it's going to be a long time before you really know any of these things to be your reality. The first step is peace on Earth. The next is a new kind of Human evolution that is going to increase your DNA efficiency to 100% and you're going to live a long time. Every time I say that, there are Humans in their intellectual mind saying, "Well, there is a geometric birth rate going on. We're not going to make it. It's going to over-crowd and we are going to run out of food. So what you're saying, Kryon, can't be a good thing. We're all going to be suffering and killing each other for food."

Let me address this, for if that is your thought, Human, you are assuming Humans are stupid and haven't figured out what's going on and why there's so much birth. You assume they can't control it because they haven't figured it out? I want to tell you, you're going to see something you didn't expect. You're going to see a decline in birth rate because Humans are smart and they're getting smarter. They're going to see that quality of life is linked to the number of children they have, and they're going to figure out the solution. It won't be how many children their church says they should have. They are going to do it intuitively. You're going to see it sooner than not.

You are going to see wisdom on the planet in many areas that no sociologist would ever have predicted. You will surprise them all, and it's going to happen without a government program. It's going to happen because you decide you want it. It's going to happen collectively, and you may even see it soon. Look for negative birth rates in first-world countries. Where Humans are able to see a larger picture and have freedom of information, the situation will not be what you have predicted.

Is there life on other planets? The scientists are saying, "It's going to be a long time before we get to the stars, you know? We have to get in this little metal can and put air in it, and then travel in it for years and years before we ever get to the next star." Meanwhile, a Pleiadian can do it in the blink of an eye! What do you think is going on there? Do you even believe me?

Not long ago, if you wanted to communicate to someone far away, you sent a letter. It was carried by a horse. It took a month to get a response. Now you communicate instantly!  Why is this so unbelievable to you about travel?

Hundreds of people have flocked to the Mexican municipality of Texcoco, attracted by a curious phenomenon of crop circles that appeared on Christmas Eve. The mystery of a seven-hectare pattern hasn’t been solved yet.

In a cloudy and rainy sky, residents of the municipality 25 km northeast of Mexico City reportedly saw bright lights on Thursday night. According to local media, the next morning they were surprised to see strange patterns in a local barley field.

An anonymous woman called the police to report “the presence of aliens in farming areas and various figures in the crops,” according to El Universal newspaper.

The authorities haven’t got to the root of who is responsible for the crop circles, or how they emerged.

But the federal and municipal police have been guarding the field, as up to 2,000 people, scientists among them, have arrived at the scene to explore it, as well as take photos.

Rumors are circulating that it is an “alien sign,” Tiempo website reported. On social media, Mexicans joked that those aliens could be “drunk,” as the new circles are far from a regular shape.

However, some locals insist on a rather skeptical explanation, blaming the wind – and playing down the version of the revival of chupacabras, or "goat suckers", legendary animal-killers, unknown to science.

People, who believe in Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) claim that so-called crop circles – or crop formations – are signs of alien presence. However, scientists suppose them to be man-made, with a possibility of nature’s interference.

UFOs have been appearing in our skies for thousands of years. But now something new is happening. Orbs of light in a triangle formation are repeatedly appearing over major cities all over the world.

Because they always make the triangle, it is clear they are intelligently controlled, and not any sort of freely floating objects such as balloons, flares, or Chinese lanterns.

So if these orbs of light are in fact extra-terrestrial, why are they appearing above our major population centers? If they were merely observing us for scientific reasons, then surely they could do so without us seeing them. Yet they repeatedly appear as huge, bright lights in a clear triangle formation.

It seems as if they want us to see them. It seems as though they are trying to wake us up to the fact that we are not alone in the Universe. And perhaps this is their way of initiating contact.

But if they want to make us aware that we are not alone, and make contact with us, then why don't they just land?

Well, what would happen if a giant spaceship suddenly landed on the White House lawn? How would we react to that? How would the military react? How would the media react?

Bright lights in the sky are very non-threatening. And it isn't immediately obvious what they are. In takes some figuring out. And in the process of figuring it out, we have time to absorb the reality of it. We have time to process the shock and fear.

They are initiating contact, but in a way that doesn't shock and terrify us. These beings clearly understand our psychology very well, and are showing great sensitivity to our emotions. They know what they are doing.

Right now at this time, they are observing how we are reacting. They are waiting for us to figure it out. And waiting to see if and how we respond to them.

The former US president says he finds it increasingly unlikely that we're alone in the universe, and hopes if we are visited by extraterrestrials that they come in peace.

Bill Clinton has revealed he "wouldn't be surprised" if aliens visited Earth after he ordered a complete review of secret government files.

The former US president has opened up about his efforts investigating extraterrestrial life during an appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! talk show.

He said his second term in office included the 50th anniversary of the infamous Roswell incident, which sparked a generation of conspiracy theories about a possible UFO crash landing.

AAM: And they will come not to the heads of nations, but to the villages, to the people. They will come in the smaller craft. There will be an energy field, just like they are now penetrating the planet and each of you with a soft pink glow; there will be an energy glow of the pink.

No, they’re not going to change the material of their machines, but there will be an energy field that will reassure people. And this has been done also through much of the work of having troops on the ground, understanding the variations and the frequencies of communications.

If anything, what will occur is that your star brothers and sisters will present their credentials in very small groups to, for example, the mayor of a small town or a village. Because that is the level at which they wish to connect.

It is very low key, and it is also saying to those who in fact have their feet closer to the ground, as it were, that your role in working with your village, and our value for your role, is profound.

The leaders of many nations — and we do not disrespect or dismiss them — but the leaders of too many nations that have agreed — in G8, G20 — that the star brothers and sisters are present have simply not stepped forward. So it is a more casual approach.

And then, when you have the mayors and the people of villages all over the globe declaring that they have visitations and new allies, this will force the hands of those “people in power,” because that is not where the power lies, to say, “Oh, yes, that is so.”

So it will be a very gentle initiative.

SB: Well, Lord, why does Barack Obama need prodding? I thought he was pro-Disclosure and willing to disclose? Or Medvedev, for that matter?

AAM: Many of them are pro-Disclosure, and they have agreed in private conversations of meetings of nation-heads to Disclosure, but they have not proceeded. They have also allowed themselves to be influenced by military. And this is particularly true … well, some of the more recalcitrant factors have been at work in terms of working out some of the angst and anger. So they have always had higher priorities on their agendas.

Now, your star brothers and sisters have waited hundreds and hundreds of years, as you well know. And could they wait hundreds of years longer? Yes. But you can’t.

Earth, Terra Gaia, Kingdoms, are not in a position, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, physically, to wait indefinitely. And your star brothers and sisters, they came, all of them, on a mission of peace, with an olive branch of love, with technology and goods, science and culture, very rich, that they wished once again to engage with this planet in exchange and mutuality, and particularly in assisting Earth to raise — and everything upon her to raise — to the higher frequency and dimensions.  So they are not willing to step back and miss the main event!

A UFO enthusiast has claimed that a mountain in southern Taiwan may be inhabited by aliens after a number of sightings in the area, while an unusual giant face can also be seen etched into the side of the mountain.

On his blog UFO Sighting Daily, Scott C Waring said that he saw the face first hand after driving with his wife and son along Provincial Highway 1 near Fangshan in southern Taiwan. His wife, Jennifer Chen, had previously told him of the unusual rock formation and they stopped to survey the area. Waring took photos using his wife's smartphone, later uploading several of the images along with videos said to be of aliens sighted near the region on his blog.

Waring wrote that the mountain is only 11 kilometers away from a military base where a non-terrestrial being was sighted weeks ago by one of his readers. It is also around 30-40 km from another sighting by a police officer who spotted a transparent creature with a mantis-like head near Jiaming Lake in 2012. Waring concluded that aliens may have set up a base 4-6 km underground.

The CIA has officially acknowledged the secret US test site known as Area 51, in a newly unclassified internal history of the U-2 spy plane programme.

The document obtained by a US university describes the 1955 acquisition of the Nevada site for testing of the secret spy plane.

It also explains the site's lingering association with UFOs and aliens.

The remote patch of desert surrounding Groom Lake was chosen because it was adjacent to a nuclear testing facility.

"The U-2 was absolutely top secret," Chris Pocock, a British defence journalist and author of histories of the programme, told the BBC.

"They had to hide everything about it."

The U-2 plane, developed to spy on the Soviet Union during the Cold War, is still flown by the US Air Force.

Reports of UFOs

The document, a secret 1992 internal CIA history of the U-2 programme, was originally declassified in 1998 with heavy redactions.

Many of the blacked-out details were revealed this month after a public records request by the National Security Archive at the George Washington University in Washington DC.

The site was selected for the U-2 programme in 1955 after an aerial survey by CIA and Air Force staff.

According to the history, President Dwight Eisenhower personally signed off on the acquisition.

Officials from the CIA, Air Force and Lockheed, the contractor building the U-2, began moving into the facility in July 1955.

While a lengthy account of the development of the U-2 spy plane programme, the history also attempts to shed light on the public's fascination with the Area 51 site and its lingering associations with extra-terrestrials and UFOs.

It notes that testing of the U-2 plane in the 1950s - at altitudes much higher than commercial aeroplanes then flew - provoked "a tremendous increase in reports of unidentified flying objects (UFOs)".

"At this time, no one believed manned flight was possible above 60,000 feet, so no one expected to see an object so high in the sky," note authors Gregory Pedlow and Donald Welzenbach.

'Inclination towards secrecy'

The original request for the redacted portions of the history was made in 2005. It was released to the National Security Archive several weeks ago.

Jeff Richelson, a senior fellow at the National Security Archive, said the long period of secrecy was notable because of the extent people across the world were already aware of Area 51's existence.

Mr Richelson speculates the CIA must have recently made a conscious, deliberate decision to reveal Area 51's existence and origins.

"There is a general inclination towards secrecy," he said, and the many US agencies and non-US governments involved in the U-2 programme would have had a say in the declassification process.

"As far as I can tell, this is the first time something must have gone to a high-enough level to discuss" whether or not to formally acknowledge Area 51's existence, he said

Alien? Subhuman primate? Deformed child? Mummified foetus? The internet is buzzing over the nature of "Ata", a bizarre 12-centimetre-long skeleton featured in a new documentary on UFOs. A Stanford University scientist who boldly entered the fray has now put to rest doubts about what species Ata belongs to. But the mystery is not over.

The story began 10 years ago, when the diminutive remains were reportedly found in a pouch in a ghost town in the Atacama Desert of Chile. Ata ended up in a private collection in Barcelona; producers of the film Sirius latched onto the bizarre mummy as evidence of alien life.

"Wow, this is like nothing I've ever seen before"

Last year, immunologist Garry Nolan, director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's Proteomics Centre for Systems Immunology at Stanford in California, heard about Ata from a friend and contacted the filmmakers, offering to give them a scientific readout on the specimen. They asked him to give it a shot.

Ata has the bone characteristics of a six- or seven-year-old child.

Among the apparent abnormalities, Ata sports 10 ribs instead of the usual 12 and a severely misshapen skull. "I asked our neonatal care unit how you would go about analysing it. Had they seen this kind of syndrome before?" Nolan says. He was directed to paediatric radiologist Ralph Lachman, co-director of the International Skeletal Dysplasia Registry at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles. "He literally wrote the book on paediatric bone disorders," Nolan says. Lachman was blown away, Nolan recalls: "He said, 'Wow, this is like nothing I've ever seen before.' "

To study the specimen, Nolan sought clues in Ata's genome. He initially presumed the specimen was tens or hundreds of thousands of years old - the Atacama Desert may be the driest spot on the planet, so Ata could have been preserved for aeons. He consulted experts who had extracted DNA from bones of the Denisovans, an Asian relative of European Stone Age Neandertals. It turned out that their protocols weren't necessary. "The DNA was modern, abundant, and high quality," he says, indicating that the specimen is probably a few decades old.

To the chagrin of UFO hunters, Ata is decidedly of this world. After mapping more than 500 million reads to a reference human genome, equating to 17.7-fold coverage of the genome, Nolan concluded that Ata "is human, there's no doubt about it". Moreover, the specimen's B2 haplotype-a category of mitochondrial DNA - reveals that its mother was from the west coast of South America: Chile, that is.

Meanwhile, after examining X-rays, Lachman concluded that Aka's skeletal development, based on the density of the epiphyseal plates of the knees (growth plates at the end of long bones found only in children), surprisingly appears to be equivalent to that of a six- to eight-year-old child. If that holds up, there are two possibilities, Nolan says. One, a long shot, is that Ata had a severe form of dwarfism, was actually born as a tiny human, and lived until that calendar age. To test that hypothesis, he will try to extract haemoglobin from the specimen's bone marrow and compare the relative amounts of foetal versus adult haemoglobin proteins. The second possibility is that Ata, the size of a 22-week-old foetus, suffered from a severe form of a rare rapid ageing disease, progeria, and died in the womb or after premature birth.

Nolan hasn't yet turned up hits for genes known to be associated with progeria or dwarfism. He's stepping up the search for mutations through additional sequencing and casting a wider net. Another possibility is a teratogen: a birth defect-inducing toxicant along the lines of thalidomide. Nolan plans to analyse tissue using mass spectrometry to look for toxicants or metabolites. But reports of a handful of other Tom Thumb-sized skeletons from Russia and elsewhere have Nolan leaning toward a genetic explanation.

At least one expert has a more prosaic take-but agrees that the specimen is human. "This looks to me like a badly desiccated and mummified human foetus or premature stillbirth," says William Jungers, a palaeoanthropologist and anatomist at Stony Brook University Medical Centre in New York. He notes that "barely ossified and immature elements" of the hands and feet, and the wide open metopic suture, where the two frontal bones of the skull come together down the middle of the forehead. "Genetic anomalies are not evident, probably because there aren't any," he says. Nolan responds that the rib number and epiphyseal plate densities remain a riddle; while he is open to the foetus hypothesis, he thinks that the jury is still out.

Nolan's analysis went viral this week; besieged as he has been by the media circus, he doesn't regret having gotten involved in debunking a claim of alien life. "I'm thrilled with the outcome," he says. Once the analyses are complete, he says, he'll submit his findings for peer review. The other claim Nolan debunks is that Ata is an elaborate hoax. The X-rays clearly show these are real bones, complete with arterial shadows, he says. "You just couldn't fake it," he says, adding, with a laugh, "unless you were an alien."

Secret spy telescopes' new role: helping Nasa hunt for life beyond solar system

Giant instruments designed to keep watch on Soviets have been given over to space research

Officials at Nasa have been given an unexpected gift by American spy chiefs: a pair of space telescopes, each as large as the Hubble observatory.

The huge instruments were designed by the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), a secretive intelligence agency, to peer down on sites in the Middle East and former Soviet Union. However, the project was cancelled and now Nasa has been presented with the leftover instruments. One group of astronomers has already begun work on plans to use a telescope to help in the hunt for life on other worlds.

"This is a gift that we have to take advantage of," said Dr Matt Mountain, director of the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. "These are very large telescopes, and from their design specifications they appear ideal for carrying out large surveys of the heavens, including searches for Earth-like worlds orbiting stars near our solar system."

The two telescopes donated by the NRO have mirrors 2.4 metres in diameter – the same as the Hubble observatory's – and from space they could spot "a dime sitting on top of the Washington Monument", according to a Nasa official.

The satellites appear to have been part of a massive spy satellite project that was axed several years ago after lengthy delays and vast cost overruns. More than $10bn of US government cash was spent on the Future Imagery Architecture project before it was ended. Leftover hardware was kept in stores in Rochester, New York, by ITT Exelis, one of the companies involved in designing the instruments. "It was certainly a huge project to judge from the size of the storage chambers that were built there," said astronomer Alan Dressler, who recently visited the site. "The facility was clearly built on a grand scale and was capable of manufacturing dozens of space telescopes, as far I could see."

The fact that Nasa had to struggle for years to raise funds for a single space telescope, the Hubble, while the defence establishment was building a plant in which these instruments could be mass manufactured may seem startling.

However, Dressler, who works at the Carnegie Observatories in Pasadena, California, sounded a note of caution. "The link between space telescopes and spy satellites is a close one and an intriguing one," he said. "The technology that went into Hubble was in fact based on previous generations of orbiting surveillance telescopes and spy satellites. All that the defence industry did after that was to reverse the process and use the Hubble as a model for a new generation of spy satellites."

This similarity may prove to be a godsend for astronomers. Space projects in the United States have suffered badly from severe cutbacks imposed on Nasa's budgets – the agency was recently forced to withdraw from the proposed US-European Exo-Mars project, for example. The provision of two free space telescopes will therefore be a major boost for its space scientists, allowing them to cut at least $250m off the cost of a mission while allowing them to launch it several years earlier than scheduled.

An early beneficiary is likely to be the Wide-Field Infrared Space Telescope (W-First). It was expected to be launched in the mid-2020s and use a relatively modest 1.3m telescope to hunt for planets in orbit around stars and to search for dark energy, which is thought to permeate all space and which is accelerating the expansion of the universe. Thanks to the NRO, astronomers will be able to launch a bigger, better version of W-First before the end of the decade.

"With the money saved thanks to this gift from the NRO, we can add new instruments to W-First, including one called a coronagraph, which should help us pinpoint planets in orbit round other stars," added Mountain.

"We have never put a coronagraph in space before and it is vital we perfect instruments like these if we are to use space observatories to look for life on other worlds in future. This is a wonderful chance to use military money for peaceful purposes."
